This book brings unexpected clarity to the nebulous idea of modern male identity. It is a refreshing point of clarity in a culture that seems intent on stripping away any sort of healthy ideas around what a man should be. The five marks covered in this book immediately resonated with me. Whether or not I feel I am properly exhibiting those marks, I recognize the truth in them. Reading this is at once affirming and challenging. I really appreciated manliness is discussed in terms of these marks rather than in terms of how much I can bench, how much money is in my checking account, how many guns I own or even how often I pray. Being a man, in these terms, has far more to do with honor and character than any of the superficial measures we, as men, so often thrown at us. If you're a man, you owe it to yourself to read this and digest the content. If you're a woman, you would be well served to read it as well.
I really appreciate Brian’s perspective in this book. This is clearly a topic that he has developed a life long passion for and his vision of helping men in our society become the men God designed them to be is stunning.I read Brian’s first book by the same name, and I must say, this is a knockout. So much more content, so many more stories and anecdotes to drive home the hard spiritual truths and grace needed to face our responsibilities. This book will make you want to change for the better, or maybe go to Man Camp, or maybe both. Don’t miss it!

After attending two Man Camps (1500 men camping for a weekend, unplugged from technology and diving into fellowship and Jesus) I was excited to get my hands on Five Marks of a Man. This book is a great outline of identifying your boyish ways and transforming them into manly positions. Real men have a vision. Real men take minority positions. Real men are team players. Real men work. Men are protectors. Not only does Brian Tome give those philosophical and Biblical reasons for you to wonder how they apply to your own life, he gives you real life experiences and stories to connect the dots. At the end of each "Mark" he presents challenge questions to dig deeply into your own situation to stimulate growth. These questions help kick these lessons into gear by helping you wrestle with your own situations and how to act towards aligning those with with what God wants for your life.This book provides value in a lot of different situations. It's great for individual men both young and old, as he states there are 15 year old men and 45 year old boys. It's great for men's group study. It's even great for young women who are ready to date, setting a great standard of what to look for in a husband. It's definitely worth the read and even more so to share with a friend or family member.
My fiancé and I attend Crossroads church and enjoy the preaching done by Brian. Brian is passionate about building into men (this is obvious during his preaching)and I was excited to buy this book for my fiancé. My fiancé has nearly read the whole book in one day. Prior to reading the book, my fiancé invited several of his friends to a conference hosted by Brian later this month. I’m excited to see the positive change in my fiancé as well as his friends. Building into males and encouraging them to be MEN instead of boys. I love it.
